The babies are here! Glory delivered 8 healthy puppies exactly on her due date. She had 5 girls and 3 boys from 10:20 pm to 7:10 am on March 27, 28, 2006. All the puppies and Glory are doing very well. Glory is a wonderful mom. It amazes me how Mother Nature takes over and those maternal instincts kick in. They were all good size and ranged in weights from 11.45 ounces to 14.05 ounces. Overall, it was a terrific experience for my first time of whelping and having a litter....The fun has just begun!
Check back often for updates and pictures.
DAY 1
DAY 2
Glory and the babies are doing great. Glory is a very attentive mom and I litterally have to drag her out of the whelping box on a leash to go to the bathroom. She hurries and does her business and then races back into the whelping box making sure everyone is OK. The puppies are gaining weight--they are very content and oh so very, very cute!
DAY 3
Today was a big day for the puppies. Tails were docked and dew claws were removed. They all came through it just fine! Glory wasn't very happy to have been separated from her puppies, but she survived also. All puppies are continuing to gain weight. Most of them are right around 1 lb now. I find myself just sitting and watching and observing....they are so precious. My daughter Avery has been spending more time in the puppy room--mainly because I have! She loves to sit and watch the puppies too--She gets a big smile on her face, points at the puppies and then squeals with delight at the little bundles.
DAY 3
DAY 4
Everything is status quo here. Mom and puppies continue to do great. All the puppies are gaining weight and getting stronger by the day. It's amazing to see their little personalities already starting to develop. Some of them are finding their "favorite" spots to lay on Mom (over legs, on neck, right next to, etc.) All the puppies have been given temporary names. Here are the names and ribbon colors.
Growing, Growing, Growing is what we are doing! After 1 week, all the puppies are approaching the mark where they have doubled their birthweight! Glory has decided that it is OK to leave the whelping box with the puppies still in it long enough to go to the bathroom! She even came upstairs to "raid" Avery's high chair a couple of times. However, she is still very anxious to get back to her babies.
