Jan -July 2008
For the most part, it has been pretty quiet around Panacea Vizslas. In January, Melissa decided to go back to school to obtain her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree through the University of Florida, so she has been quite busy with that. Here is just a quick update on some of the dogs in the Panacea Family.
Tempe--Jakra N Panacea's Mutual Temptation came home the beginning of January. Check out her page for more information. She has been a joyful addition to our household.
Chili--CH Panacea's Mad About You RE JH completed her Junior Hunting title with zest and pizzazz--just as her name would imply. She did so well, she even scored a perfect score of 40 on one of her passes! Chili also completed her Rally Excellent title this spring with many placements along the way. We are so proud of Team Chili!--Way to go Dale, Katherine, and Chili! Chili will be making her agility debut this summer--I can't wait to hear the progress they have been making!
Rowdy--CH Panacea's Rawhide has been making an occasional appearance as a special in the conformation ring. He has done quite well for the limited amount of showing he has done. Earlier this Spring, Rowdy and handler Lindsey Fields earned several Best of Breeds and a Sporting Group 3 placement! Thanks a million Lindsey! In June Rowdy came back home to Panacea Vizslas and stayed with us for about a month. During that time I took him to the Twin Cities Vizsla Club Specialties. At the June Specialty, Rowdy earned the only Award of Merit under judge Christina Hubbel and then the next day won Best of Breed with a VERY nice entry of vizslas, including some of the top winning dogs in the breed. I am very proud of Rowdy and all that he has accomplished. I am excited to hear about his upcoming wins.
Colby--CH Jakra's Survivin Th' Journey CDX RA JH AX AXJ has been chosen to be the sire of a litter of puppies. He will be bred to Moxie--Jakra's Vividly Poised N Savvy in the Spring of 2009. Watch here or at Jakra Vizslas for more information.
August 2008
August 3--Chili and Katherine entered their first agility trial. Chili proved she was ready for the ring by qualifying in both Novice Standard and Novice Jumpers with placements! Chili is a very driven dog who is very enthusiastic and loves agility. While Katherine enjoyed running Chili, she is to be Dale's agility dog....it will be fun to keep up with their progress.
August 9, 10--Tempe went Reserve Winners Bitch both days to almost full sister Reese (Jakra's Irresistable Blonde). Tempe and Reese have the same father and their mother's are littermates. I was very pleased with how the little girl showed....
August 22, 23, 24--Tempe went Reserve Winners Bitch at the show in Lake Elmo, MN on Sunday. It was a fun weekend spent with good friends. I showed my favorite German Wirehaired Pointer, Lewis and went Winners Dog, Best of Winners for a 4 point major at their Specialty on Friday, and then went Winners Dog again on Saturday for 2 more points.
August 29--Sept 1--We traveled to the Amana Colonies in Cedar Rapids, IA over Labor Day weekend. Tempe went Reserve Winners Bitch on Friday, Winners Bitch on Sunday and Winners Bitch/Best of Winners on Monday. On Sunday, she was also Best Puppy and went on to earn a Puppy Sporting Group 4! I was very happy with my little girl. Unfortunately, in the life of the dog world, you have to take the good with the bad, and we had to say goodbye to our 14 year old Doberman who passed away in her sleep the morning of August 31. Amber was a great dog, and she will forever leave an imprint on my heart. God Speed, Amber....you will always be my girl.
September 2008
Sept 6, 7--Chili and Katherine participated in Novice A obedience with getting legs toward their CD title. I am very pleased to announce that Chili qualified both days with 2 first places and awesome scores for Novice A--a 193.5 on Saturday and a 190 on Sunday. Way to Go Team Chili! I am so impressed with you and proud to be Chili's breeder!
Sept 20,21--Chili and Dale competed in Agility. This was Dale's first time in the agility ring, and while Dale says they were not perfect, they emerged a perfect team in my eyes!! Dale and Chili qualified both days in Novice Agility to earn their NA (Novice Agility) Title! Way to go! They have been working very hard at preparing for this, and the hard work has paid off! Go Team Chili!
October 2008
October 4--Tempe earns Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed at the Cornhusker Kennel Club show in Lincoln, NE!
October 6--Panacea Vizslas is pleased to announce the addition of Lyons N Penlee's Essence at Panacea also known as Cagney.. Cagney was shipped here from Florida and she made the trip beautifully! Many thanks to Joy Lyons and Betty Anderson for letting this lovely young puppy come here. She is adorable and it will be fun to watch her grow up!
October 10--It was one of the saddest days of my life....we had to make the heartwrenching decision to say good-bye to Paxton. He developed a fibrosarcoma on his muzzle, and even though we did everything possible to treat it, including radiation, the tumor was too aggressive. I held and hugged him as he came into this world, and I was able to do the same as he left. Even though he was in pain, that tail kept thumping until the end. He was my heart dog....rest peacefully, my boy....until we meet again.
October 11,12--It was the MN opener for pheasants, so Jeff took Colby and Glory out Even though it was hot they were able to get a few birds....and Jeff was very impressed with the wonderful dog work he saw. He is looking forward to many successful hunts this year.
October 25--Rowdy earns his Canine Good Citizen Award! Way to go Rowdy and VIna!
November 2008
November 1--5 Jeff went pheasant hunting in SD with Colby, Glory and Tempe. Our good friend Pete Otterness and his dog Woody (a littermate to Glory) went along also. They had some great hunting, saw lots of birds, and had some awesome dog work.
November 9-- Chili and Dale earned their second leg in Open Standard. Click here to see their run and great teamwork! This team has a lot of potential and they are going to be fun to watch!
November 8--14 Melissa traveled to the Vizsla Club of America Nationals held in Tucson, AZ. Tempe did a great job and placed 1st in the 9-12 month class. We all had a great time and especially loved cheering Debbie and Brinklee on to Winners Bitch! (Brinklee is a full sister to Tempe from a previous breeding). While we were enjoying the 75 degree weather, Moxie came to visit! Colby and Moxie have been bred, and if she is pregnant, puppies will be due in Mid-January, and ready to go to their new homes Mid-March. Keep watching for updates!
December 2008
December 7-- Tempe went Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed at Granite City Kennel Club in St Cloud! Rowdy was Best of Breed in Vancouver, WA.
